Description
Flare Black Marble is a dramatic natural decorative stone quarried in Thailand. It features a profound, obsidian-like black background with subtle dark grey undertones, creating a bold and sophisticated appearance. Its defining feature is a prominent, irregular creamy-white vein, which may run diagonally across part of the slab, accompanied by bold dark grey to black fibrous streaks. Faint silvery linear traces add depth and movement, creating a distinctive flare-like visual effect against the predominantly black surface. A polished finish enhances the contrast between the dark background and lighter mineral veins.
Texture & Structure
Flare Black Marble has a visually compact, dark surface with irregular vein structures and subtle tonal variations. Its pattern combines broad, creamy-white mineral veins with elongated, fibrous dark streaks and fine silver-grey traces. The directional veining produces a dynamic, flowing appearance rather than a uniform pattern. The distribution, thickness, and direction of the veins vary naturally between slabs, making each piece distinctive.
Chemical & Mineralogical Composition
Flare Black Marble is commercially identified as marble, but its precise mineralogical composition has not been independently verified. Its dark background and contrasting veins may reflect variations in carbonate minerals and minor dark or light-colored accessory minerals.
Chemical composition (% by weight):
Potential chemical components include CaCO₃, MgCO₃, SiO₂, Fe₂O₃, FeO, Al₂O₃, and other minor oxides. Exact percentages are unavailable for this specific material and should not be estimated without analytical evidence.
X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), and petrographic analysis are recommended to establish the actual mineralogical and chemical composition.
Usage
Flare Black Marble is suitable for interior wall cladding, dramatic feature walls, decorative flooring, hotel lobbies, reception counters, fireplace surrounds, vanity tops, furniture surfaces, and luxury residential interiors. Its strong contrast and directional veining make it particularly suitable for statement walls, book-matched panels, and contemporary architectural projects.
It may also be considered for countertops and selected bathroom applications, subject to confirmation of its physical properties and chemical sensitivity. Exterior use should be evaluated according to weathering resistance, climate, and installation requirements.
Maintenance
Clean the surface with a soft cloth, warm water, and a pH-neutral stone cleaner. Avoid acidic products, including vinegar, lemon juice, and acidic bathroom cleaners, as they may etch carbonate-rich marble. Do not use abrasive pads or harsh chemicals that could dull the polished finish. Wipe spills promptly, especially oils, coffee, wine, and acidic liquids.
A suitable penetrating sealer may help reduce staining, depending on the stone's porosity, but it will not prevent scratching or acid etching. Use protective pads beneath furniture and follow the supplier's recommendations for periodic cleaning and resealing.
